I have a few websites bookmarked that aren't the typical Amazon or eBay sites that I thought I'd share.
A couple of years ago, my Koreatown office building started shaking and it freaked a bunch of us out. It turns out to have been the Paso Robles earthquake (hundreds of miles north of here). Someone came across this government site and I've been checking it out ever since. You can find information about recent earthquakes: http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/latest.htm. I have it defaulted to the California page but you check out the whole US and the World.
Last year (or maybe the year before) the Mt. St. Helens volcano became active again and I came across a web cam that points at it: http://www.kirotv.com/sponsor/3770913/detail.html. It's like of fun to check in every couple of days and see what's going on. Sometimes you just see a big blur and you know the web cam is in the middle of the clouds. On rare occasions you see a spider on the lens. But when that thing starts steaming it's cool to check it out.
There probably aren't a ton of people who don't know about the next one. http://www.hallmark.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&categoryId=-102001&CatIDsList=-2;-102001&tabOn=products. That's an awfully long URL but it's the URL for the free Hallmark E-cards. They're fun to give and to get and you can find cards for just about any occasion.
The last one is invaluable when you're on a road trip. It's the CHP Highway Conditions page: http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi. I mostly use it when we're heading up to the mountains to see if there are construction projects that might require a detour or if chains are needed. Just type in the highway number and see what's going on!
