I decided to do a little cleaning up on my computer. I create files and then just leave them there. I got my first computer in Spring 1995 and this "gem" is from that year. It's about the pet rabbit I had for over 8 years. My beloved Blackjack was a character and some of that is captured in this silly little poem.

I wake up in the morning, and do a little dance.
I start to bite my cage, I end up in a trance.
I need to go potty but I dare not in my cage.
I really need to go, especially at my age.
I’m trying to wake my mommy, will she ever come?
I may be just a bunny, but clearly I’m not dumb.
I make more noise than ever, surely she will hear.
She’ll stumble out of bed-she won’t be seeing clear.
There she is; she’s coming; I start to hop with joy.
Is she happy? Is she mad? I start to think “oh boy”!
But she is still my mommy and to her I am so dear.
Hurry up and let me out-be prepared to stand clear!
She unlatches the cage-I am soon to be free.
Get out of my way - so I can go pee!
I hop to the corner, a comfortable place.
(Mommy tires of cleaning the same old space).
She’s altering my pattern; I’m carried to the door.
No longer am I squatting on her clean kitchen floor.
I’m out in the yard, where a bunny should be.
I wonder what kind of predators are spying on me.
Soon I can appreciate the wonderful outdoors.
I get to munch on leaves; scattered around in scores.
Mommy is inside; keeping a careful eye on me.
Making sure I’m safe and not trying to get free.
My tummy is now full, it is time for a nap.
Dreaming of some orange juice that I’m allowed to lap.
When I awake, I am ready to come in.
Mommy’s at the door, receiving me with a grin.
I know she’ll always love and take care of me.
I love to entertain her, it’s clear to see.
I thank her with a hand lick and a quick little nibble.
She rewards me with that juice - it’s hard not to dribble!
The life of a bunny - it’s all that I know.
I am very special - Mommy tells me so.
Now I’ve met you and I think that you’re sweet.
Come on, pretty please, I’d like a little treat!
